Forspoken Demo is probably not for You

Forspoken is for some, not for all

I finished the Forspoken Demo and I decided to use this Demo playthrough to write a little about Forspoken but after playing it, I realized that the game is not for everyone. If it’s anyone, it’s for those that like Final Fantasy, but the more modern Final Fantasy games. Think more towards Final Fantasy XV and most likely XVI instead of the older Final Fantasy game

Before we start things off, there was a disclaimer at the start stating that the game is still in development and the final product might be different from the demo

Now that we got that out of the way

I want to start with the menu, and I got screenshots of all the menus from in-game

Let’s just say, it’s unfortunate that they have not changed their menu from the terrible looking fisheye lens menu that they have obviously decided to have

The menu is very easy to understand but it’s very annoying to look at. I played the entire demo, and I basically didn’t want to look at the menu the entire time.

As a matter of fact, I didn’t look at the menu outside the first time and to take these screenshots

If there’s something they can change before the game comes out on 24th January 2023, this is the first thing that I would change

Combat and Abilities

This isn’t something that I would say is bad or good, it basically feels like a standard in these games, to be more precise, Final Fantasy XV and XVI.

In the demo, there’s two sets of abilities. We have Sila’s Magic and Frey’s Magic.

Sila’s Magic consisted of multiple short-range combat and fire while Frey’s Magic consist of long-range and, I want to say water(?) combat.

The combat wasn’t for me, I’m sure a ton of people would love it and that’s great and personally, I don’t see anything that they should change because it works fine and at times, it can be fun but most of the time, it has been very…. let’s say, it gets boring quick. Of course, this is the demo and therefore, there’s going more abilities and combat style in the full release but as of right now, the demo doesn’t feel like it’s the best combat system for me

The World

Let me just start this off with a simple, the world is barren. I’m sure there’s a story to it but since I’m talking about the demo here, the entire world is barren, and everything wants to kill you.

Yes, you have parkour and traversal in the game isn’t extremely terrible with traversal but the world itself was so bland.

The world was very uninspiring, if you think that this screenshot is just a nitpick of the landscape, here’s another of a mission to capture/clear a fortress

And then there’s another one screenshot I took in a “town”, and I say town in quotes because it’s really not a town but just another random mission and the way it looks and how empty the entire “town” was is just sad and depressing

But like I said, there could be a reason in the story as to why the world looks the way it does, why it’s so barren and everything wants to kill you but it’s still a very bad excuse to have a world that’s so very empty.

Unfortunately, that’s what the world is in the demo, and we don’t really have a proper explanation why it’s so empty.

Conclusion

Is the game worth it? For me personally, it’s not the best and I’m most likely not going to buy the game but that’s the thing about games, right? It’s all subjective. You might love this game but for me?

It’s uninspiring, empty, flimsy, very talkative (you will understand what I mean if you play the demo) and, graphically speaking, not the best implementation of Raytracing and HDR
